JC Bose Science Society
The Society was earlier known as “Wonder Science Club” which was established in 2006 with the motive to provide a platform to the talent within science stream students. The club was run by the students under the guidance of teaching staff from the Science stream. Since then, each year various posts under the Club viz President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary were unanimously chosen by students among themselves.
In 2013, the club was renamed “J. C. Bose Science Society” to pay tribute to the great Indian scientist Sir Jagdish Chandra Bose.
Objectives of the Society
- To boost the scientific aptitude of the students by organizing various competitions based on scientific themes like quizzes, debate, declamation, project making (Working), projects from waste, group dance, rangoli on scientific themes, poster making, collage making, painting, slogan writing, photography etc.
- To enhance the virtue of sustainable living by organizing various activities based on energy conservation and sustainable living etc.
- To organize important medical health camps like dental checkups, haemoglobin count, blood group testing, first aid, disaster preparedness etc.
- To organize invited talks on important scientific topics of current relevance etc.
- To provide a platform for science students in various competitions organized by other clubs.
- To inculcate the spirit of democracy by electing a president, vice president, treasurer and secretary among them each year.
- To boost scientific knowledge by providing magazines, journals, periodicals, references and textbooks in libraries etc.
- To organize or co-operate in collective blood donation camps even in extension mode since society strongly believes in the thought “Rakt Daan Maha Daan”
- To equip students with the latest job opportunities in the scientific arena by taking special sessions at the class level by science teachers or by special invited lectures through other clubs/ cells within or outside the institution level etc.
Important Past Activities
- In session 2013-14 boost was given to sustainable living and thinking by organizing competitions based on sustainability themes, energy conservation among students in college and homes etc.
- In session 2015-16 (23rd December 2015), a special “Thalassemia awareness campaign” was started in college under the guidance and assistance of “The State Institute of Health and Family Welfare, Shimla”. Samples from students were collected and secrecy of results was maintained at the outcome level.
- In the session 2018-19, the members of the society donated blood in the “Blood Donation Camp” organized within the campus.
- In session 2018-19 and 2021-22 the “National Science Day” was celebrated with several competitions based on various themes. Even clubs opted for cultural activities based on the themes to conserve local tradition etc.
- In session 2022-23, many competitions based on scientific themes were organized on “National Science Day”. The society actively participated in the Blood Donation Camp Organized within the campus in December 2022. The club members also participated in a Blood Donation Camp organized on 01/12/2022.
